My Christmas abroad in Hemsedal, Norway
wow wow wow. Can you believe this will be the 4th Christmas and New year’s in a row that I’ve been away from home? I can’t! Where did the time go? ‘‘I’ll just be gone one year’’ , That’s what I said during the summer of 2016, when I booked my one way ticket to Australia with Moa. She ended up going home after only a few months, me? Well, I’m not sure I’ll ever go home - except for the occasional visit of course.
Somehow, each year I have ended up in magical locations, surrounded by incredible people and I have never once during these years felt alone on Christmas, although I should admit that some years hasn’t exactly felt like Christmas. (Yes, Australia, I’m talking about you and your weird climate). I’ve been blessed to have met some amazing souls during these past years and somehow I’ve always been surrounded by ‘‘family’’ on Christmas, because after all, home is where your heart is and family doesn’t have to be of blood.
Quick recap of the past 4 winters;
2016 - Lived in Strahan, Tasmania with my amazing Best friend Moa. Worked as a Waitress/Barista.
2017 - Lived in Coles Bay, Tasmania in a National Park with what came to be 2 of the closest friends I have. Worked as a waitress/Barista/Bartender
2018 - Lived in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden and worked as a bartender at the ICEHOTEL.
2019 - Currently living in Hemsedal, Norway where I’m working as a Barista/Bartender.
This New Year’s feel special, and maybe, It is because it’s the end of a decade, the end of an era. I can’t help but think back at myself 10 years ago, at 13 year old little Nathalie. She could never in her wildest imagination have dreamed of what we would become, what we would experience and how happy and at peace we would be. If only I could tell her, reassure her that everything will work itself out and turn out better than we could’ve ever imagined. Instead I’ll tell you (yes you), if you are currently in a place of lack, if you are struggling with whatever life is throwing your way. Don’t panic, don’t worry. Everything will work itself out in the end.
I have also forgotten to mention that the latest issue of WANDEROUS AFFAIR has launched and it contains a 4 page long interview with yours truly. This winter issue is focusing on Budget traveling & Travel hacks - My favorite thing to talk about!!
You can get your own copy HERE and if you do read my interview, please let me know what you think! This stuff makes me super nervous and happy at the same time.
I hope you’ve had a wonderful Christmas and I would like to wish you a Happy New Year, May 2020 be kind to you and have faith in that you are exactly where you are suppose to be. That was everything for now, and until next time, take care! xo Nathalie
