Summer Summery of Lofoten 2020

Hey, It’s been a while and I hope you’ve had a great summer so far wherever you might be! This season up in Lofoten has been crazy, with all the new Corona regulations and the season being a lot busier than anyone had foreseen, I honestly haven’t had much spare time on my hands. But, the job is fun (mostly) and the weather has been something out of the ordinary which I’m sure you’ve seen if you follow me on Instagram (@natgoneglobal) so I guess it could be worse hey?

My original plan was to come up here for 2 months, work a little and spend lots of time in nature and head back home in time for my birthday which is on Wednesday. Well, July flashed by in the blink of an eye and I ended up working more this year than last, hehe. And instead of packing our car to go home now, I packed up the caravan with Ebba and moved into an apartment a few days ago and on Monday I will drive to the airport to pick up the remaining part of the house squad. We have decided to stay another month and although caravan life has been a blast, it would be quite crowded for 5 people haha so this is the better solution! And boy, it feels gooooood to have a proper kitchen again!

Why the caravan?

Since my original plan was to be on Herm Island, one of the Channel Islands in the UK, there wasn’t many accommodation options available last minute when that plan fell through and I got a job up here in Lofoten! When we eventually got offered to live in a Caravan we jumped on the opportunity! It’s better than nothing hey? And I am actually surprised on how the past couple of months have been. In the best way possible!

It has just been me and Ebba, and the caravan has 1 double bed, 3 single beds, a couch + table, a dining area + a small kitchen. We were parked right outside a house and had our own bathroom just inside there, and a laundry room. Now, do not picture yourself anything too fancy, it is after all a caravan. But it’s the biggest caravan I’ve ever seen haha and since it was only the two of us it was more than enough space! But now our caravan adventure have come to an end and it feels like such a luxury to have all this space to move around in now! A kitchen with an oven, a comfy sofa and my own bedroom? Haha, it’s crazy how fast I was able to adapt, and even crazier how fast I’m adapting back to having lots of space. Where did all these extra stuff come from all of a sudden??

Sometimes, okay that’s a lie, I’m gonna say most of the time, the living conditions for seasonal workers are not the most glamorous places you’ll ever stay in, but what it has made me realize over the years is that I do not require the biggest house or the newest furniture to be pretty content with myself and my life, all I really need is a comfy bed, wifi and the possibility for a hot shower!

That was everything for now, and until next time, take care! xo Nathalie
